RESUMO

The meat processing industry creates large amount of liquid effluent with high pollutant concentration. Previously to its delivering to the environment it is proclaimed it should be treated and brought to suitable levels for pollutant reduction, according to environmental legal requirements. Such effluents, under several variations on meat and derivates demand and subsequently industrial productive processing changes, acquire different characteristics within the time, which will require adjustments in the recovering system of treatment effectiveness. Therefore this research aimed to find out and improve the treatment system of compound effluents by anaerobic floater and strainer of a frigorific industry, not related to slaughtering. Firstly it was performed an evaluation of the current system through the measurement of DQO and complete solid waste removal effectiveness during treatment steps. Due to low floater effectiveness (31%DQO removal) it was performed coagulation, flocculation and flotation trials in workbench with the purpose of verifying under which conditions the organic waste removal, in this treatment step, could be optimized. It was studied the coagulation condition with ferric chloride (coagulation pH and coagulant dose), flocculation timing, recirculation rate as well as flotation speed. During the trial under the optimized framework, it was achieved 90% DQO removal, 99.8% muddy reduction and 96% phosphorus removal. In this study, the achieved results reveal that flotation was only effective in the treatment of effluents from meat and derivates processing frigorific industry when preceded of coagulation and flocculation steps.
