RESUMO

This work proposes the answer to the following question: how power and cultural identity are related in a complex of bahian organizations based on the local culture? Pracatum Association Social Action (Pracatum), Fênix Artistic Productions (Timbalada) and Rubber Nose are objects of this study because they have some interesting common characteristics. They had been created and are presided over by Carlinhos Brown, bahian, precursory artist of axé music, famous international percussionist, community leader of its quarter, the Candeal. And points to a new autonomous organizational arrangement to improve distinct tasks: a cultural market insertion and a process of social development. The goal of this research is to analyze how the complicated relations are given between the bahian culture, the Candeals community and Carlinhos Brown himself in the management of these organizations. So, content analyses on main actors interviews of this process, documents and news articles of television and press media of the last 10 years on Carlinhos Brown and its organizations had been used, as well as participant observation of Pracatum. To the end, it is argued how the paper of the leadership with strong cultural identity in the management of these organizations can be source of success and crisis.
