RESUMO

The mushrooms of genus Psilocybe were used in Indians traditional culture for thousand years in magic rituals due its psychoactive effects and its use continue between Indian descendants, principally on Central America; on South America its more recent use date for 300 years b.C. In Brazil occurs some species of these mushrooms that produces the secondary components psilocin and psilocybin, high psychoactives in little quantities. Although there is no register of traditional use of magic mushrooms in our country, its not-ritualistic or hedonistic use is shared for many users in some localities, ignored by the epidemiological census and its use practices were observed in Recife-Pernambuco with the specie Psilocybe cubensis. The ingestion of little quantities of these mushrooms causes a mystic-psychedelic experience which some mental functions are altered like visual perception (with opened eyes), auditory, touch, language, âcreative imaginationâ (visual perception with closed eyes), logic, etc. The way of the present study was to explore experimentally basic aspects of visual perception and subjective perception of time duration through the application of simple and objective tasks, and general aspects of the experience through the application of psychometric tests in healthy humans volunteers that makes or not the use of psychedelic substances. Twenty and eight people participate of the research by the acceptance of the informed consent. The study was conducted in non-laboratorial set and in the format group-researcher. The motor visual perception of the participants did not presented significant differences when compared the ordinary and amplified states of consciousness and compared to group control. Nevertheless, were observed a significant deficit on visual working memory of the participants after the consumption of the mushrooms. The participants under the mushrooms effects presented significant differences of the time subjective perception in relation to pretests. The subjective time became slower, showed by the retard in the âcorrectâ counting of the seconds. The results are discussed in qualitative terms of the cognitive perception between ordinary and amplified states of consciousness as by psychotomimetic and psychedelic characteristics of this substance
