RESUMO

Nowadays, mobile communications market is being driven by the need of data services. Among the systems of the first and second generation (1G and 2G), GSM (Global Mobile System) is undoubtedly the most used in all world for voice applications, however, it continues offering data services with low bit rates, which in parallel with the low capacities of the systems, are the main problems of the progress mobile multimedia. Besides, data services are characterized by the need of higher bandwidths. Although, GSM that originally was developed for voice transmission and data services with low bit rates, is being quickly updated to incorporate new multimedia services. In its intermediate generation, 2,5G, with HSCSD (High Speed Circuit Switching Service Dates) and GPRS (General Packet Radiates Service), will increase its data rates 3 times with the introduction of your enhanced versions, ECSD (Enhanced Circuit Switched Dates) and EGPRS (Enhanced GPRS), that together are denominated of EDGE (Enhanced Dates Rate Global Evolution). EDGE will use a high level modulation named 8PSK (8 Phase Shift Keying) together with GMSK (Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying), used by GPRS, more efficient modulations schemes and link quality control mechanisms, IR (Incremental Redundancy) and LA (Link Adaptation), which bring benefits when used in good propagation conditions. This work treats of the data service evolution, especially of the 2,5G, concentrating on the study of EDGE, more specifically of EGPRS, with the approach of your principal aspects and characteristics. Studies were accomplished considering the single and multislot allocations, considering specifications and standards, for the transmission of different data traffic models (Funet, Railway and Mobitex) among PCU (Packet Control Unit) and MSs (Mobile Stations). A simple prototype was developed with the objective of simulate of that abstraction level and test of an algorithm for the optimization of the allocations, in way to allow the best study and analysis of the acting of the system
