RESUMO

Physical Educator s actuation has been guided by the teaching paradigm; this preoccupation makes him forget about the real expectations that people have, and when it concerns the elders, this seems to be especially aggravating. The teaching act has lost its meaning in the asylums, considering the fact that who have been living there have interests, necessities and life expectancies that are very different from the ones who live somewhere else. Due to this reality, we proposed ourselves to point out a different insight concerning the Physical Educator s actuation together with the asylums. This consists in working with the elders memory, because once they have recovered the happy experiences they had in their past, we would be bringing up the affective side that is involved in these experiences, which is the real target of our research, "the recovery of happy experiences greatly involved by affectivity as the main source of content to be worked with elders". Therefore, this study aimed to recover the pleasant episodes from the elders memories, which were part of their daily lives in the past, retaking the subjective memories (affection, emotions, caresses among others) as well as the objective memories (daily and happy activities, games, among others). We used as an initial strategy, an individual invitation to the elders to participate in a program of physical educative activities, and eight elders volunteered, and after that, we developed a script for an interview together with a team that volunteers at the asylum, compounded by three members (vice-director, psychologist and doctor), from whom we obtained the basic clinical information (anamnese and individual reports given by the volunteers). Following to that, the elders were interviewed, and an affective atmosphere was created (trustful and extroverted atmosphere) in order to ease the recovery of the memories and organize a program in which the description of these experiences constituted the content of an intervention program. This program had 20 practical sessions, which were accomplished in the second semester of the year 2000. Positive results were reached, and they could be realized through the reports given by the three members of the asylum and by the elders themselves. As a consequence to that, it was observed that the stimulus of the memories and the recovery of pleasant episodes can get the elders to have an improvement in their social life, quality of life, perception of their own health and in the motivation for new activities
