RESUMO

Starting from the analysis of steps taken in a given industrial concern (Taylor s), this study tried to ascertain the possibility of applying the same method of curbing sexual harassment in two other organizations, PASERV and EMPA. This, of course, has led to some insights which might encourage further research, since sexual harassment at the workplace has not yet been well researched among us. It has been decided to use the case study method of investigation due to its higher flexibility for an exploratory research. The attained results show how serious is the problem mainly among women at the operational levei. It was also possible to assertain that prevention and curbing methods of sexual harassment necessarily encompass a modern approach to human resources administration, and especific policies like the oves developed at Taylor s. The study also suggests that organizations PASERV and EMPA would probably have difficulties in applying the methods used in Taylor s because, as state owned companies, they are under political pressures. We suggest urgently further research aiming at the factory floor scenario. It should be followed by an open debate gathering business administrators and academic researchers in order to tackle the problems of sexual harassment at the workplace.
