RESUMO

Although labor is not the right time for anti-HIV test, the Ministry of Health considers it essential to be offered and its treatment by chyme prophylaxis for mother and baby in order to prevent HIV transmission during pregnancy and childbirth. It is therefore recommended that the rapid/fast test for HIV is offered with counseling considering special situations, such as in childrens birth centers. This study aims to analyze the action of counseling in STD / AIDS for pregnant women and mothers who are submitted to HIV testing during admission for delivery/childbirth in Salvador, Bahia. It was conducted a qualitative study in a maternity hospital with participant observation and semi-structured interviews with 20 informants (13 women with no previous diagnosis for HIV and 7 health professionals).It was observed that there was no specific action offering any type of counseling previous to the offering and. communication of the results of HIV testing. The exam is done by compulsory requests and the results are communicated only to the HIV positive women. In Salvador, the experiences of these women reveal that there is no dialogue between professionals and patient screening for HIV testing at admission for delivery. Many do not realize they have been subjected to such exam. The meanings and experiences that permeate a positive or negative diagnosis for HIV for women that find themselves HIV positive are not addressed by health professionals. In the dynamics of the hospital here is no physical space for qualified hearing. There are difficulties in training these professionals to deal with this approach that confront mechanistic and disease oriented biomedicine hegemonic practices that often oppose the experience and needs of these women.
