RESUMO
This work is an outcome of a bibliographic research and a theoretical discussion about narcissism and parental function. We emphasize these two concepts because we think they can make it possible to carry out a Freudian psychoanalytic understanding of the relationship between parents and offspring, discussing the metapsychological issues involved. We are not interest about parental or children subjectivity as separated topics, so we try to center our attention to the inevitable strain present on human relationship and to the primary mental organization occurred also in response of this strain. Thus, narcissism would be an interesting concept because it helps to outline an important explanation for that primary mental organization, pointing that the Ego is from the very beginning powerless to deal with both inner and external stimulation. The parental function concept tries to put forward a theoretical comprehension about some clinical observations that take place on daily clinical work. However, this path will not lead us to the description of parental behaviors patterns in order to discover the paramount parental behavior. Regardless, we aim to think over the consequences that can be produced by the narcissistic mark which can be found blended to parental care. The literature will aid us on this route, providing us with the overriding inspiration and the clever human observation accomplished by Honoré de Balzac.
