RESUMO

The research on music in aphasiology can still be deemed restricted. Maybe due to the fact that this research does not take into account the relationship between the musical and oral languages, since the hypothesis that musicality would processed in the right hemisphere and the aphasias would be present in the left hemisphere, has been held since the XIX century. Over a hundred years have passed and, although neuroscience points to the existence of a bilateral processing for music and language, very little has been discussed about this matter. It should also be noted that some research points to music as a therapeutic possibility, since it would not be always changed in the aphasias. Nevertheless, this research does not describe the musical functions, the sound parameters or the elements of musical or singing language. Based on those assumptions, this research aims at investigating the musical functions and the elements of musical and singing language of seven aphasic subjects. The collection of data was carried out through a socio-cultural interview and musical activities such as musical appreciation, vocal techniques and choir singing. The results point out that as to the singing, the subjects showed to be in tune and to possess an appropriate rhythmic preparation. Nevertheless, they show clavicular breathing, reduced vocal tessitura and difficulties to reproduce the lyrics of songs. It is conclude that the group of aphasic subjects studied showed preserved musical functions, although the likelihood of singing the music text is singular and varies according the subject and his/her aphasic symptoms.
