RESUMO
The aim of this study was to bring clarification about the control strategies adopted by the Central Nervous System during multijoint reversal movements, specially to identify motor behavior alterations in subjects with Parkinson?s disease (PD). Nine neurologically normal adult subjects and ten PD patients participated in this study. Sitting in a chair the subjects executed fast reversal multijoint movements in the vertical plan, moving towards a target and getting back to the initial position. These movements were accomplished in three different distances. The elbow and shoulder angles were recorded using a optoelectric system of motion analysis (OPTOTRAK® 3020) and the electrical activity of pectoris, anterior deltoid, posterior deltoid, triceps brachi and biceps brachi muscles were recorded by a electromyograph EMG DelSYS (model DE2.2L) with surface electrodes placed over the muscles bellies. The results showed slower movements in PD patients and the differences between then and the healthy subjects increased with the target. The trajectory was linear and no considerable errors were noted in the targets in both groups, although only the anterior deltoid activity predominated. There was a break in the linear covariation pattern for muscle and interaction torques but not for net torques. In both groups the net torques were adequate and showed distance effects, but the PD patients torques values were always smaller than the healthy subjects torques. It can be concluded that the PD patients did not show qualitative changes in the torques generation, but the small EMG activity and the fail in the bursts modulation can contribute to the torques and peed values
