RESUMO
The economic crisis and the conservative governments in Spain have led to a sanitary counter reform, resulting in major changes in the health system, linking the right to healthcare with private insurance, changes in the services portfolio, establishment of copayments, budget cuts and privatizations, resulting in a deterioration in health system and a worsening in people’s assessment. Social and professional mobilizations have taken place, being the ‘white tide’ of Madrid the most well-known, although there have been mobilizations throughout the country. The characteristics of these mobilizations are analyzed; they have shown that when the mobilization is unitary, massive and persistent, it is possible to paralyze the privatization process.
