RESUMO
Climate changes, atmospherics characteristics and environmental pollution have turned the final use of energy an issue of special interest to be addressed by studies all over the world. The mix of energy, characterized by the Brazilian energy sources, makes it possible to consider the development and better understanding of this technology in order to reduce emissions. This work is mainly concerned in presenting a methodology to convert internal combustion engines vehicles to operate with electrical power. Methodology herein proposed takes into account aspects such as weight, size, departure torque, transmission, power and others. The methodology considers factors such as weight and size, departure torque, transmission, power and others. Mathematical tools and current practice provide the basis for preparing this work, which describes the analysis of electric vehicles performance, components used, mechanical equations, and criteria for choosing the ideal vehicle for conversion. It is presented the implementation of a project to convert a van in electric traction, whose main objective is trying to promote educational benefits of electric vehicle technology. In order to develop the experiment, the paper concludes the need of expanding the demand for nationalization of technology that would make the project a commercially viable reality. In addition, there is a need for public policies to encourage electric vehicle technology in Brazil. This work presents a contribution to convert vehicles to electric traction, since it systematizes steps of the project in which others would follow, based on what it is available in the domestic market.
