RESUMO

The aim of this work is to evaluate the functioning conditions of window air conditioning units through a methodology to characterize their performance. With this purpose, a climatized essay tunnel (TEC) was planned and built, attending the pattern and norms of ABNT (Brazilian Association of Technical Standards) to test window air conditioning units. The developed methodology shows a practical script of the functioning characteristics of equipments and/or instruments that take part, direct or indirectly, of the built calorimeter and of the own experiment. The way the experiment was built allows the definition of several results to estimate the efficiency of window units, because the psychrometric and/or thermodynamical properties are simulated in the essay tunnel. The TEC was planned as a structure built ion blocks, which facilitates the manipulation of equipments and/or instruments, as well as the preventive and the corrective maintenance modules, having extreme practicallity. Each block of the tunnel was projected with a specific purpose. Inside of the tunnel blocks properties as temperature, pressure, flow rate and air humidity were measured. The analysed air conditioning unity, an apparatus with capacity of refrigeration of 7.500 BTU/h (2.197,5 Watts), was monitored to allow the evaluation of characteristics as capacity of refrigeration, (qe), coefficient of performance (COP) and Energy Efficiency Relation (EER) to several functioning conditions. Besides of presenting a methodology of procedure and measurement inside the TEC and procedures to evaluate qe, COP and EER, the present work is completed with concepts and standards of ambiental comfort. An indication for better use and maintenance of window units is also presented in this work
