RESUMO

The term phytal was introduced by Remane to design another division of marine environment in addition of the traditional categories pelagial and the benthonic, being the phytal environment dominated by macrophytes that are able of keeping thenselves. The objective of the presente research was improving the knowledge of the malacofauna associated to Sargassum spp and the structural factor of this ecosystem. Monthly manual sampling were made at Pontal of the Cupe, Ipojuca â PE (08Â 27â 31,9âS e 034Â 09â 00,1âW) in a multspecifc seaweed bed of Sargassum C. Agardh. The samples were fixed in buffered formalin-sea water 4% and after we proceeded with the mollusks selection and identification and determination of the samplesâ volume. Density, relative abundance and frequency, especies richness, diversity and eveness were estimated and we run principal compoud and cluster analysis. Mollusks were composed by specimes of three different classes Gastropoda, Bivalvia and Polyplacophora. Gastropoda was the most representative class dominating over the others classes. The total density varied throughout the year being bigger among the months of the dry period. This variation was a consequence of the variation of the abiotic parameters as temperature, salinity that had showed a greater correlation with some taxa. At the studied period many juveniles molluscs had been found, probable the phytal of Sargassum spp in the Pontal do Cupe serve as nursery area or of recruitment for some species. New records of some taxa were found: Cerithiopsis flava, Petalifera sp., Colpodaspis sp. and Doto spp, could be a consequence of the gaps of collection in the region or the invasion by ballast water being necessary a monitoring of the area
