RESUMO

This work aims to evaluate the recent situation and perspectives of offer and final use of natural gas (NG) in Brazil. At first, a discussion about the productive investiments in the industry is introduced, together with the most representative aspects of the productive system globalization process. Secondly, a compilation of the international market and investiments on NG is presented. This compilation was originated from secondary" sources. Under1ying the situation of the natural gas and other gas fuels in Brazil, a restrospective of the most recent investiments is presented. Subsequently, this works emphasises some possible strategies to increase the internal use of natural gas and its derivatives. These strategies are associated either with the enlarging of the available natural resourses, together with the increase of its value (strategy I) or with the pipeline importation (strategy II) or shipping (strategy III) - in case of the liquefied natural gas. The present version of the project of pipeline importation (Projeto Gasoduto Termelétricas, PGT, via Bolivia-Mato Grosso-São Paulo) receives special attention. Some of these strategies, illustrated and exemplified in the view of the 1994-96 scenario, are based on the very likely hypothesis of accelarating and reinforcing the privatization and the deregulation of the oil and power industries in Brazil. These industrial segments are considered selective spaces of accumulation by the international financial and power sector capital, even considering the long crisis of investiment on the international economy and on the brazilian power sector
