RESUMO

Brazilian public Universities produce most part of scientific researches conducted in the country. The comprehension on how these scientific and technological researches are carried out in these institutions, as well the mechanisms that influence this knowledge production dynamics and its influence to the society, enables the move away from deterministic views that Science is situated, necessarily, as an arm of the Capital. Against this militancy, this study aimed to analyze the scientific and technological production of the researchers from the Agricultural Science Center, Federal University of Viçosa campus, Viçosa-MG(CCA/UFV), identifying the factors that influenced scientific practices and the speeches of these researchers, and, also, which are the potential public consumer of the knowledge they produced. The analysis of the scientific production was performed by classifying it according to the type of product resulting from the work of researchers: scientific article, book, patent, etc. Concomitantly, it was sought to identify the motivation of researchers to conduct their research and how they can be linked with public and private interests. As the methodology procedure, this study has drawn a representative sample of 68 adviser professors of strictu sensu postgraduation programs of the CCA / UFV to, later, be interviewed and have their Lattes resumes analyzed. Based on inquiries made, it was found that the science developed in the CCA / UFV is consistent with the patterns of modern science, being a social product and not an external agent to society, in which its production is the result of a complex network interests: social, economic, political and cultural. If, on one side, it is true that in the knowledge production there is an interfere of economic factors, these are notdisconnected with the socially constructed needs and desires.
