RESUMO

Study of the insertion conditions of technological Innovations in a selection of energy development projects which use straight vegetable oil as energy source in diesel engines in Brazil, relating the public policies and the companies interests involved with these projects, checking the adverse conditions of its insertion into the National Energy Matrix, comparing it with the traditional fossil fuels. It presents a historical introduction of the straight vegetable oil use as energy vector and the Brazilian agenda which have and still support the vegetable oil as fuel. Technical considerations about the straight vegetable oil use in diesel engines and its consequences are analyzed to verify the technical possibilities of this technology. Significant examples of the straight vegetable oil use in diesel engines in Brazil are analyzed. The most common problems with them and their considered solutions are described. Technology roadmaps to implant this technology innovation are discussed. There is also a description on how the renewable alternative energy forms take place in long and mid-term Brazilian energy planning and a discussion about the development and sustainable development concepts considering the straight vegetable oil use in diesel engines.
