RESUMO

In this experiment were used 43 marmosets, of the specie Callithrix penicillata, belonging to the Primatology Center of the Universidade de Brasília. These animais are distributed in 20 cages, with two or three specimens each cage. Histopatological exams from two marmoset that died at the end of 2006 revealed the presence of trematode structures in the liver tissue. Faecal examinations of the remaining animals showed that 40% were carriers of Platynosomum spp. eggs. The marmosets that died during the experimental period (n=9) were necropsied and from the biliary bladder were collected some trematodes specimens that were identified a Platynosomum illiciens (Braun, 1901) Kossack, 1910. All marmosets were treated with praziquantel at 40 mg/kg. The post-treatment faecal exams still revealed the presence of Platynosomum eggs. Based on obtained results its suggested the test of other active principle, and the adoption of management measures that involve manly the control of intermediate host.
