RESUMO

One of the challenges in politics is to promote food sustainability utilizing ecological management of the natural resources in order to guarantee the human rights of adequate feed. In this research the purpose was to evidence the motivations for the food practices, the necessities and conquests for the sustainability of small scale agriculturists that adopted agroforestry systems. The methodology chosen was an ethnographical exercise in a description about the habitual life of small scale agriculturists families localized in Goiás, São Paulo and Acre. Participant observation, surveys and semi-structured interviews were the proceedings utilized to collect information about life histories, feelings, expectations, social origins, external motivations, preferences and individual decisions. The objective was to understand why those rural families have chosen to grow food ecologically, how they embody new food habits, which were the results reached in environmental conservancy and health, what kind of social organizations were evolved for organic food production and its commercialization. The results observed in agroecological crops have convinced the agriculturists that agroforestry systems are efficient solutions for their autonomy, guaranteeing their feed directly from the land and conserving the environment. Even that a high quality food production (organic and diverse) creates appropriate conditions for healthy food habits, the food choices observed in the families showed a nutritional pattern still deficient for an ideal health maintenance. To choose agroflorestry systems, the economical income was one of the first motivations for the agriculturists interviewed, but with the results observed in the fields, most of the times, their attention was brought back to sustainability of food, water and environment conservancy. However, the majority of agriculturists studied still need better technical and material support to implement the agroforestry systems on a complete manner, autonomous and permanent, as well as generate embodiment of new food habits to maintain health, valorizing regional food and egroecological practices. Even challenging, the possibilities for sustainable feeding can become established. In this process, civil society and State must be integrated for ecological proposes. Agroforestry system is an eminent agroecological solution that shows to be concrete.
