RESUMO

This paper aims to fill in an important gap for the Brazilian Space Program. It offers elements for the study of the geometric quality of the remote sensing satellite images, from the initial development stage of the various systems in one satellite. Besides the CBERS Program, the Brazilian Space Program includes Brazil s participation in other international cooperation programs, as well as other all-Brazilian programs, such as the Remote Sensing Satellite (RSS) and the Multi-Mission Platform (MMP). In all these situations, it is necessary to have the exact notion of the many factors that degrade the geometry of the images, in order to be able to establish a relation between costs and the geometric quality for each system sensor and platform systems, such as the attitude and orbit control systems This study identifies and classifies the many different causes of degradation of the images geometry, proposes correction models for the causes already classified, and evaluates the quality of the images generated by those models. Experimental results related to different sets of satellites and instruments, differing in acquisition technology and space resolution, with special emphasis on the satellites of the CBERS family, are also presented and discussed. This paper presents a comprehensive technical guide to the aspects concerning the geometry of the images right from the initial stages of the satellite s project. The results obtained in this study can guide the decisions in different stages of the design of a mission, when related to the geometry of the images. The requirements of the sub-systems connected to the platform must be aligned with those desirable requirements for the final quality of the images purchasing.
