RESUMO
This thesis deals on the trajectory and the ways of life of the Brazilian Indians and/or their descendants of different ethnical origins who, stalked into the wildemess by explorers, evicted from their villages or expelled from their lands, carne to live in the small villages and towns of Minas Gerais in the eighteenth century. Identified in a large hue of mixed categories, they carne to reject their condition, falling back on the colonial and ecclesiastical justice in an attempt to establish their Indian origin. Based on this strategy, in a movement towards the redefinition and reconstruction of their identity, they forced their own recognition as Indians and, by force of law, granted their liberty in the slave society af the seventeenth century
