RESUMO

The principle object of this thesis is to explore and understand Brazilian thought regarding Public Relations. We seek to identify the process of assimilation of foreign matrixes and their adaptation to hegemonic cultural models in national territory via the consultation of historical documents and the exegesis of weekly texts regarding the exercise of the profession. As such, comparative method in applied in order to understand how it is that ideas germinated in the United States of America are spread in Brazil, specifically during the period of late industrialization, and take specific form in such diverse environments. Documental analysis and the comparison of ideas forces originating with the pioneers of the area permit the formulation of the evolution of practices in the area of Public Relations in public service and companies. Finally, we present evidence and reflections regarding the Brazilian identity of Public Relations as it developed during the last decades of the XX century.(AU)
