RESUMO

In this research a discussion and some insights over nude photographic images, taken by the author between 2002 and 2006, is proposed. Almost all the experiences reported during the photographic events, in where 40 or more years old models were focused, concerns to undesirable physical appearance and motivated the present research. Thus, the desire of being young and its impossibility turns the body into a control object. Consequently, the woman tends to invest in her self-image by means of cosmetic consumption, sport activities, and aesthetic surgeries. In this context, she looks in the picture for an important aesthetic self- contemplation of her body. For this purpose, she uses poses, gestures, adornments, and facial expressions, aiming to the physical shapes as a determinant element of self-affirmation. These problems bring to the scene the necessity of discussing body limitations and possibilities as a beauty meaning proposal. It becomes crucial to think the physical identity along with the medical and cosmetic technologies and the images produced to seduce. To understand this process, it was applied the picture as physical evaluation mechanism for the woman. As result of this analysis, during the interviews, the models had spoken about body related questions and the nude exposure experience, generating the empirical material: the pictures and the 10 testimony from these women. The body expression and issues related to the artistic nude have gained importance in this study, since from the pictures analysis the models had the opportunity to think about their bodies, in a therapeutic and pragmatic attitude. This fact enabled the researcher, by analyzing and interpreting the pictures and testimonies, to gain an understanding on the power of the photographic image and its effective connection to the female self esteem recovery. The whole work has served from the discourse, image, and interview analysis, in a typical exercise of hermeneutics of deepness applied to cultural studies over the mature woman.
