RESUMO

According to the socioecologycal point of view the present work was carried out. The dynamic factors of schistosomiasis mansoni transmission were studied in the municipality of Pedro de Teledo, Ribeira Valley, São Paulo State, Brazil. The intermediate host was Biomphalaria tenagophila in the studied area. In 1987 the faeces examinations (Kato-Katz method) were made in the population exposed at infection (endemic area). The prevalence rate, the index of potencial contamination (IPC) and intensity of infection were evaluated. The carriers of Schistosoma mansoni eggs were epidemiological classified according to the infection place. The geographical distribution of those cases and other aspects corelated with the transmission were stablished after plotted in maps of endemic area. The association between the human factors and the schistosomiasis was evaluated through case-control by matching (1:1), from household enterview. Water contacts, (KAP) knowledge, attitude and practices, socio-economical status and sanitation were observed through individual questionaries. SAS and MICROTAB programmes were applied to develop the statistical analysis. The faeces of 4719 individuals were examined and the general prevalence rate was 4,8% being higher in males (6.2%) and also in the rural zone (5.8%) and in the adults (5.3%). The geometric mean of S. mansoni was 35.1 eggs per gramme of stool: 80% of the cases. ...Note: The complete abstract is available with the full electronic digital thesis or dissertations
