RESUMO

Women with HIV / AIDS presents several factors that increase the risk for acquiring chronic degenerative diseases. Among these diseases, there is breast cancer, due to the various risk factors. Thus, the objective of this study is describe the risk factors for developing breast cancer in women with HIV / AIDS and analyze the vulnerability?s markers of women with HIV / AIDS that contribute to the development of breast cancer. The sample comprised 150 women with HIV / AIDS, attended the clinic at St. Joseph Hospital of infectious diseases. Data collection was conducted during May- August 2008, using a semi-structured questionnaire. The results were analyzed using simple descriptive statistics, and seized part of the data was subjected to analysis of the association between categorical variables, using the nonparametric test ?chi-square?. The results show that participants of the study had at least four risk factors for breast cancer, and the risk factor ?exposure to radiation? (X-ray), in 100% of women. There was no significant relationship between variables ?stage of the disease? and ?consumption of alcohol?, or between the variables "stage of the disease" and the existence of ?breast cancer?s cases in the family?. (p>0.05). We identified vulnerability?s markers related in three dimensions: individual, social and programmatic. Such markers concerned, mainly to the low education of women, the lack of correct information about the breast cancer, lack of monitoring and professional guidance, ideologies and culture of the disease. We conclude that it is necessary encourage early detection of breast cancer for health promotion and the need for training the health professionals providing care to women with HIV / AIDS for the prevention of breast cancer can be implemented, suggesting the implementation of guidelines and monitoring in consultation with nursing, and additional studies to understand better the relationship between HIV / AIDS and breast cancer.
