RESUMO

Introduction: The obesity is a chronic and multifarious illness that results of the fat tissue accumulation, local or in all body, in response to the positive difference between consumption and energy consume. The overweight, event that precedes the obesity, and the obesity comes significantly occurring in children of the whole world and not only in adults, as the information showed in a remote past. Methodology: The study is a case-control, involving 336 children from 7 to 14 years old; 112 constitute the group of prevalent cases and 224 the control group; matched by age and gender. The children had their weight and height measured, after they and your parents were questioned about standard of living, chronic disease non-communicable in family, life style and feeding. It was adopted conditional logistic regression to evaluate the investigated relations, accepting the value of p of 0,05 to the statistical inferences. Results: The high level of mother education (OR: 3,31; IC95%: 1,68-6,54), the high consumption of food from animal origin (OR=2,80; IC95%: 1,21-6,47); the familiar historical of obesity (OR=2,45; IC95%: 1,39-4,32) and dyslipidemia (OR=1,80; IC95%: 1,03-3,17), beyond the devoted time to the use of television (OR=2,03; IC95%: 1,14-3,64) it constitutes the exposition factors to the occurrence of overweight and obesity in the investigated children. Conclusion: Due to the epidemiological relevance of the overweight and obesity in childhood, not only of its magnitude but also for the contribution to the development of other not transmissible chronic illnesses, the prevention of these nutritional dysfunction, based on positive changes in the diet and life style since the childhood, must be a priority in the health schedule of the country.
