RESUMO

The following work has the objective to evaluate the competitive elements of the tractor industry in Brazil. Some strategies of analysis aimed at the technological and economical dynamics of this industry in the intemational ambit were adopted to exam the behavior of the Brazilian tractor industry. Furthermore for a better understanding about the technological and economical dynamics a study was done about its installation process, which allowed us to conclude that the tractor industry is important for any country throughout its economical development. During this research another source was established to appreciate the levei of the competitive elements of the national tractor industry: the national automobile industry. The multinational automobile industry was installed at the same time of the national industry of tractors with similar technological support. The automobile industry also operates in oligopolizied structures of the market, whose economical links, besides their importance, were also important for the comparison here, accomplished. The great technological and economical activity of this industry on na intemational levei was equally studied for a later comparison and a consequent evaluation of the modernity degree on a national leveI. The comparative analysis between both industries starts with same variables in the relation with the technological update production processes and products as well as the way the market is organized. The understanding of the distinct competitive trajectories is improved by the comprehension of the different technological dynamics, market studies and the relation user/producer, each one of these is presented in different chapters. This methodological option showed the favorable levei of competition reached by the tractors industry in Brazil along its technological and economical trajectory in the country, intensified since the opening of the market in the nineties.
