RESUMO

In thls work was made a study about the blocompatlblllty, in vivo, of a Pollethersulfone manufactored by AMERICAN OIL COMPANY (AMOCO) , solded by the trade name UDEL P-1800. Durlng the perlod of february 1993 to april 1994, this polymer was implanted ln the form of particles lnto the Triceps Surae muscle, and rods implanted at Abnomlnal muscle of 56 males rats ( Rattus noverglcus ) of WYSTAR variety, with a follow-up of; 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 and 52 weeks. As a reference materiaIs was used a Ultra High Molecular Weight Poliethiéene (UHMWPE) manufactored by POLIALDEN PETROQu1MICA with a trade name UTEC 3440, and a Polivinil-chloride (PVC) specialy supplied to this work by COMPANHIA PETROQu1MICA CAMAÇARI. At final of the study the autors concluded that alI materiaIs implanted in a rods form induced the same tissue response. Meanwhile the evolucion of this response depends of chemical nature of the material. The polymers implanted in the particles form also had the same tissue response around of 16th week, without significative differences between both. Don t was observed any macroscopic alterations induced by the implan planted materiaIs. As to PES, don t was noted any chemical or structural alterations produced by the host body, either was observed tissue aderence in the rods?surface surface. By the reactions observed during this work, the autors could assert that PES UDEL P-1800 is as biocompatible polymer than the UHMWPE justfying the continuation of this work through evaluation of its biofuncionality
