RESUMO

The aim ofthis study was to verífy the clinical presentation ofChagas disease in patients with malígnant neoplasm, as well as the evolution ofthis disease in a 12-month period. We analyzed 20 (twenty) patients with an mean age of 59,75:1:8,24years old and they were compared to a group of chagasic patients without neoplasm. The types of neoplasias were the following: 57,1% of adenocarcinomas, 42,8% of carcinomas and 30% of neoplasias :&omhematologic origino It was found an occurrence of 35% of symptomatic patients, showing 55% of alterations in the electrocardiogram (ECG) as well as and 20% of alterationsin the chestXray. Thesevariablesafter 12- monthperiodpresentedthemselves as 35%, 600./0and 20% respectively. The positivity of xenodiagnostic was of 20% among the patients who had performed it. At the subgroup of treated patients with chemotherapy, symptoms had occurred in 33% of the patients, 75% of changed electrocardiogram and 25% of changed chest X ray. The positivity of the xenodiagnostic was of 16% in the patients who had performed it. Twelve months after, these variables showed the following :&equences:41%, 83%, 33% and 33% respectively. Among the 20 (twenty) analyzed patients, 4 (four) remained in the undetermined form, 11 (eleven) in the cardiac form, 2 (two) in the digestive form and 2 (two) in the mixed form. Only one patient evolved :&om the undetermined form to the cardiac form. The specific treatment for Chagas disease was not used in any patient during the 12-month period. In doing so, the data suggested that there had been no changes in the natural evolution of Chagas disease, determined by the presence of neoplasm during the evaluation período We found that the worry with parasitemia in patients with Chagas disease/malígnant neoplasm, mainly in immunosuppressive agents regimen should be maintained
