RESUMO

In this work the environmental impact caused by effluent discharger was studied of the main industries of the city of Itabirito, that it is situated in the metallurgic zone of Minas Gerais. The industries with highnt polluting potential of Itabirito are of the sectors textile, siderurgy and slaughter house. Water samples of the streams and effluent of these industries had been analyzed, in order to identify the most critical case. The main parameters that had not presented conformity with DN COPAM n10, of 16/12/1986, were biochemical demand of oxygen (DBO), chemical demand of oxygen (DQO), total phosphorus and ammoniac nitrogen. It was tested for the effluent of one the industry that presented polluting potential the physico-chemical treatments, with aluminum sulphate, and biological, with system of activated sludge, in laboratory scale, being that they had not gotten good efficiency.
