RESUMO

In this experimental work the rheological behavior of multiphasical mixtures of soybean oil and hydrogenated fat, silicate was used as catalyser and air was determined in similar situations of process of a batch hydrogenation, utilizing a rotational rheometer style Searle, in 50°C. Three shakers style turbine ofRushton with 4 straight shovel were built in order to be coupled to rheometer for measuring torque and determining haracteristics of Power Number (Npo)as a function of Reynolds Number (NRe).This process aims at identifying the progress of an hydrogenation reaction. The agitation curves were adjusted as a power model and were compared with the curve developed by Rushton. The obtained curves are dislocated ftom Rushton curve of a factor of 16,7. This factor is related to NRe. The rheological measures show that mixtures exhibit newtonian behavior and their viscosities range ftom 22.1 to 31.7 mPa.s, presenting a growing behavior when hydrogenated soybean fat content increases. This behavior is feasible for utilizying the measure of requested torque for shaker of an hydrogenation reactor for monitoring the progress of reaction
