RESUMO

This work has the objective of identify the reactions of the AAR (High Performance Athlete) injured by LER/DORT (Repetitive Strain Injury/Work Related Musculoskeletal Disorders) in face of the physiotherapy rehabilitation and conservative treatment (drug and non-surgical). It searches for relating the emotional conditions of the injured athlete related to the injury and the treatment. For that a qualitative research was made, using semi-structured interviews with six high performance athletes. The speeches revealed how the AAR introduces himself into the sport and the importance of the sport in his life. The emotional connection of the athlete with the sport shows up in practically every speech. Deepening the analyses we could perceive narcissistic and self-steam related issues, permeating the sportive experiences. Regarding the injuries and their treatment, the interviewed AAR showed how they deal with the pain during the trainings, especially when the competitions are getting closer, and the emotional pain of the removal or reduction of sports practice due to the conservative and physiotherapy treatments. With this, the speeches show the emotional condition of the athlete in that moment relatively to the injury, revealing feelings of guilt for the injury, fear end anguish in front of the treatment and what may come after that.
