RESUMO

The proposal of this research work aimed to accomplish a study on the efficiency of cutting nededle biopsy (CNB) in oral lesions diagnosis, found in soft tissues, with indication of incisional or excisional biopsy. Twenty-one patients were selected, ranging from 18 to 80 years old, of both sexes, bearers of oral lesions, assisted by the Stomatology Learning Program of the Dentistry Faculty at PUCPR. After that selection, the patients were submitted to the conventional biopsies in the surgical center of the Dentistry Clinic of PUCPR. For the accomplishment of the cutting needle biopsy, a specific needle of 18ga x 9 cm caliber was used. Therefore, right after the accomplishment of the partial or total biopsies of lesions, the surgical specimen was placed on a surgical table, properly ornamented, so that the cutting needle was used. Each specimen was submitted to three shots with the cutting needle, getting three specimens that after the laboratorial processing originated three red-faced sheets with H.E. For the histopatologic analysis being so, a questionnaire was elaborated for the present work, with two different questions about the specimen diagnosis that was applied in two different moments. First of all, the observer answered to this questionnaire just observing the microscopy sheets, without the clinical history of the lesions. Later, the same observer answered to the same questionnaire with the knowledge of the clinical history of each situation. The results of the questionnaire, in both stages, were compared with the final histopatologic diagnosis of the whole surgical specimens initially removed by the excisional or incisional biopsies. The results were elaborated according to a value scale and submitted to the statistical analysis of McNemar to a level of significance of 5%. It was verified that when the specific diagnosis of the specimen was compared to the final diagnosis of the surgical specimen, for both questions of the questionnaire, at the two moments of the evaluations, there was a statistically significant difference between the percentages of the presented values p <0,05. The number of correct answers of the specific diagnosis obtained with the cutting needle specimen was statistically higher in relation to the number of mistakes. It was also noticed that the number of correct answers got to be higher when the examinator answered the questionnaire with the knowledge of the clinical history of each case. It was concluded with this present research work that, the cutting needle biopsy (CNB) showed efficiancy in elaborating histopatologic analysis of oral lesions
