RESUMO

The aim of this study was to compare clinically the efficiency of two analgesics substances (Ibuprofen - 600 mg and Tramadol - 100 mg), which were administered in a pre-surgical unique dose for pain control of the swelling and buccal opening limitation, afier impacted inferior third molar extraction.. Sixteen adult patients from Unicamp (Piracicaba Dental School) were selected. Ali of them had impacted bilateral mandibular third molar, with indicated extraction and presenting similar teeth position. They were given drugs aleatorily at thé first and second surgery. The edema was analysed through modified facial bow and also through facial references point variation. The buccal opening was analysed through measuring the incisal distance. Pain, through a visual analogical scale. The adverse events were written down by the patients. These measurements were registered within 24 and 48 hour - post surgical periods. The results showed that in two out five facial point variation measurements, Tramadol presented more swelling. For facial bow evalution, Tramadol presented more swelling. As for as trismus and pain were concerned, the differences between the drugs were not significative; nevertheless, when the patients used Tramadol, they presented more adverses effects. Taking theses results into accound, we can conclude that the usage of Tramadol 100 mg and Ibuprofen 600 mg did not present any Summary differences as to buccal opening limitation and pain. About swelling, however, Ibuprofen presented better results. In addition, the usage of Tramadol presented more adverses effects
