RESUMO

The purpose of the present study was the histological and biomechanical comparison of two types of surface in commercially pUfe titanium cylinders implants. For this study the titanium implants with 6 mm oflength and 3 regular V Shaped furrows, were inserted in the tíbial metaphysis of 8 New Zealand rabbits. The left tibia, of each animal, received 2 machined surfaced cylinders and the right tibia received 2 sandblasted rough surfaced cylinders. The early stability was reached by the joining of the implant s neck in the cortical bone, because the ~diameter of the holes prepared in the bone was about 20 to 40 pm larger than the outer diameter of the cylinders. The animais were analized and killed at 21 and 42 days after implantation. The removal torque test was done in 6 animais and after the sacrifice the bone fragments that contained the implants were removed for deca1cifed sectioning preparation for light microscopic analysis. The other 2 animais were not submitted to the removal torque test, in order to preserve the intact interface, because these specimens were prepared for undeca1cified sectioning techinique. The results showed no histological and biomechanical differences between both surfaces analyzed. The implants, in both surfaces and in both times analyzed, showed signs of osseointegrated areas. It was concluded that the removal torque for the implants increased in function oftime offollow-up.
