RESUMO

The present project investigated the profiles of resilient families susceptible to stress at a private High School in Salvador. Family stress is defined as a status derived from an uneven familiar dynamics or structure, caused by external factors or from within a family. Families, usually, are subjected to risk situations, but resilient families have personal and familiar resources, and a social support net (protective factors) that help them to face obstacles, going trough them and becoming stronger. On the other hand, vulnerable families get weaker and collapse because of the lack of such those resources, which make them more exposed to the risk factors. It is considered that protector and risk factors are correlated to the family structure and its internal dynamics, because most of the families that seek therapy are related to tensions from within the family itself. The methodology used in this project was quantitative associated to qualitative research orientation, using semi-structured interviews, Genograms, Terezinha Carneiros Familiar Structured Interviews (FSI) and the application of the instruments Como é tua família e Como é sua família from Ângela Hernández. A total of 12 families were analyzed: 6 families with problems, whose children presented learning or behavioral problems, which means families that were not considered as facilitator to children emotional development, according to the Educational Orientation Services criteria; as well as 6 families without problems did not present those mentioned difficulties. The results seem to suggest that families without problems tend to be more resilient than families with problems. Even though the instruments have not shown significant statistics differences, they indicated the tendency of the familiar groups to constitute themselves into two different groups, which confirms the previous analysis made by the Educational Orientation Service, when it split the families into two distinct groups, with and without problems. This study has pointed out to the need of investigating new themes, as well as, having a systematic approach in regards to family primary assistance.
