RESUMO

Given the importance of the role of literature for the process of national formation of this country, the present work investigates what kind of subject is represented by the characters of the prose fiction published by the Angolan writer João Melo between 1999 and 2009. Through the analysis of the short stories that compose the whole of the prose fiction produced by Melo, it is concluded that the identity configurations found in his works constitute what the British theorist Stuart Hall calls post-modern subject, whose subjectivity is formed by the historical and cultural dominant of post-modernity, result of the development of the late capitalism in Angola.
