RESUMO

Trip generation studies are the first stage for conducting impact assessments for sites developments, classified as trip generators. Depending upon objectives and adopted methodology, different data are required for these studies. High schools are considered trip generators (PGV), therefore new high schools enterprises deserve consideration about their impact on traffic and transportation systems. This study aims to evaluate travel patterns for public and private high schools in Brasilia, on its trip generation, towards defining trip generation rates and trip generation models by modal split. The available literature and previous studies in Brasilia University guided the methodology adoption and the explanatory variables choose for trip rates and models developed: population data by class of typical users, students and employees. Data collecting procedures through questionnaires allowed classified data by modal split and the identification of the travel pattern in Brazilian high schools, in a comprehensive way. The results of the work showed significant differences between the travel pattern of public and private high schools, most for students travels, also observed on trip rates and models. That was very clear for the modal split: for public high schools, transit (bus services) was the most frequent transport modal used; for privates high schools, the automobile was the most frequent one. On night classes, only for public high schools, walking was very frequent among students travels, differing of other classes periods results.
