RESUMO

In hydraulic fraçturing treatments, pressure loss due to friction in the string has been a limiting factor meanly because high fiow rates are desirable for improvement of the operation effectiveness. Fracturing fiuids based on Hidroxipropilguar in water solutions has made the use of high fiow rates possible because these solutions exibit drag reduction properties. In this work the rheological behavior of the HPG aqueous solutions in concentration between 2399 and 5997 ppm are analyzed. It is verified that the models proposed by Ostwald-De- Waele and HerschellBulkley well describe the rheological behavior of the polymeric solutions in the total shear rate range considered in this work. Experimental results for the turbulent fiow in pipes are compared against correlations proposed by Dodge-Metzner and ShaverMerrill to verify friction loss coeficients. Two empirical correlations (Blasius type and Shah type) are also obtained from experimental data for turbulent fiow. It is verified that friction factor values predicted by the obtained Shah type correlation are in closer agreement to the measured values. The drag reduction phenomenon was observed and quatified for all concentrations of Hidroxipropilguar used in the experiments
