Social determinants and epidemiological data were collected through the situational diagnosis for health care systems. Socio-economic, socio-demographic, socio-environmental and socio-cultural characteristics were examined. Samples of 270 pregnancies occurring over a period of 3 years - October/2005 to September/2008 - were used in the work in a descriptive transversal study. The prevalence found for enteroparasites was (59/152) 38.8% and for iron deficiency anemia was 52/152 (34.2%). The overall prevalence of helminths in this study was (24/152) 15.8%, and protozoa (42/152) 27.6%. It is emphasized the womens very low income and limited education, besides the high number of residents per household. It was confirmed the relationship between enteroparasitosis and variables of the health diagnosis, as well as it occurred with iron deficiency anemia, when it was also related to the diagnosis. The per capita income was statistically associated with the presence of anemia. Although the association between anemia and enteroparasitosis was not statistically confirmed, and, considering the very poor social conditions that the women from those communities are subjected, the need for control and prevention measures to protect those people is demonstrated, since the poor conditions certainly increase the risk of morbidity in those women.
