RESUMO

The aim ofthis study was to evaluate "in vitro" the effect ofbrushing on the surface features of resilient lining materiaIs. TIrirty samples were prepared and divided into 6 groups of variables with 5 test repetitions for each variable. The samples were made with acrylic matrixes placed in a flask to obtain a cast pressed molel, later filled with resilient lining materiaIs like Dentuflex ( chemically activated) or Eversoft ( thermally activated). The materiaIs were handled according to the manufacturer s directions. The samples were subjected to surface roughness readings in a roughness reOOing machine (prazis, model RUg-03, AROTEC- Argentine). They were fixed to the brushing machine (Equilabor) and submited to a mechanical brushing simulation. Three different brushes were used in the experiment: "l-Tek" with thick filaments, "2-Johnson s 30" with extra-soft filaments and "3-Phb " with ultra-soft filaments. The brushes were attached to a device in the brushing machine and a solution of 6g. of toothpaste/ 6 ml of water was placed in the brushing recipient of the machine. The samples were submited to linear brushing movements, totaling 30,000 cycles, under a 200g. static 1000 pressure. After the brushing, new readings of the surface roughness were made and the values obtained were subjected to variance analysis and the Tukey test, with 5% of significance. Before brushing, Dentuflex showed values of surface roughness statistically higher than the values obtained with Eversoft. After brushing, Dentuflex showed values statistically equivalent to the ones obtained with _Eversoft. The use ofEversoft with the three different brushes had the following results: the "PHb" brush did not statistically change the values of surface roughness. The use of "Tek" brush caused higher roughness, followed by the "Johnson s" brush, however, the Dentuflex with the "Tek", "Johnson s" and "PHb" brushes showed similar statistical values, however, the "Phb" brush seems to have polished the surface, thus decreasing the surface roughness values
