RESUMO

The study analyzed the use of multimedia technology for higher learning courses in the training of teatchers in the state of Tocantins, offered by means of an agreement between the University Foundation of Tocantins (Unitins) and Continuing Education, Ltd. (Educont). It saught to characterize the clientâs profile, the structure of curriculum, the quality of class transmission, and the studentsâ perception of the professional opportunities by the opennid the course. This information was gathered in a documentary analysis of the pedagogy of the course; interviews with the administrator and a survey of teachers (8) and tutors (5); and through a questionnaire anwered by 365 students. The results showed that current teachers with significant experience in teaching form a significant portion of the courseâs clients. This group is satisfied with the quality about the course and is optimistic of their possibilities when they return to teaching. Itâs concluded that despite some limitations, technological as well as pedagogical, and studentsâ infrequent use of computer and the Internet, the course is an instrument of democratization for access to higher education and for the improvement of quality in training professors, insofar as it is relevant to people from all regions of the state that otherwise could not have this opportunity to study higher education.
