RESUMO

The main purpose of this thesis is to analyze narratives produced about the black and the racial discrimination observed in a pedagogical trial on mathematical education. The trial was conducted with students from the sixth grade of elementary school at President Vargas School, located in Bairro Operário, in the municipality of Campo Bom, state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The production of the research materials, as well as their analysis were based on theorizations about curriculum, and contributions from the fields of Ethnomathematics and Cultural Studies, examined from a perspective aligned with the post-modern thought. The empirical part of the trial was carried out according to ethnographic-type procedures, such as observation and audio recording (later transcribed) of what the students said during the implementation of the pedagogical activities, in addition to a field log. The thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter contains a general presentation of the thesis, the explication of the theoretical place where the study was conducted; the report, in problem form, about how the research object was built, as well as the methodological procedures. The second chapter presents the conceptual beacons of major importance to this thesis. Chapter 3 describes and analyzes the pedagogical trial on mathematical education, developed for this paper. Chapter 4 examines the narratives about the black and the racial discrimination observed during the pedagogical work. The result of this examination is expressed in two units: 1) We are all equal: white supremacy and the subtleness of racism. 2) A biologized view as the producer of racism. Based on the theorization by Michael Hardt and Antonio Negri (2003) in their book "Empire", it is shown that the students narratives were comprehended as being marked both by modern racism and by subtlenesses of imperial racism. The thesis is concluded with chapter 5, which contains some reflections on the experiences during the Masters Course. Focus is placed on the game of positions between the professor and the researcher, which took place as this work was unfolding
