RESUMO

This project has the intention of establishing a dialogue between Dance and Physical Education by analyzing selected scientific articles published in Physical Education journals. For this purpose, three of the most important journals of the area were selected: Revista Brasileira de Ciências do Esporte (RBCE), Revista Motrivivência, and Revista Pensar a Prática. The chosen articles were those that approached dance as a central theme and that were published between 1979 to 2008, making a total of 40 publications. Drawing support from the contemporary theories of Katz, Greiner, Damásio and other authors, it is questioned whether the appropriation of dance as content of Physical Education elucidates its pecularities, and discusses the academic autonomy of dance. Identifying the qualitative approach as the most adequate form to reach the objectives of the proposed study, the research techniques used as instruments of data collection were bibliographical and documentary, and the treatment of the data involved content analysis, using the conceptualization for discursive, intuitive and tacit knowledge found in Vieira (2006). Searching to connect these forms of knowledge to the diverse contexts revealed in the scientific production of physical education that used dance as a central subject, the author hopes to weaken the hierarchies that can persist in relation between these two knowledges, to contribute to the affirmation and consolidation of Dance as an area of specific knowledge and academic autonomy.
