RESUMO
The main objective of this investigation was to analyze the similarities and differences in written and oral discourse. The study was conducted using oral discourse and written compositions made by students who were concluding high school. We analyzed not only similarities and differences in terms of language but also extralinguistic features such as gestures and silence. Our interest was mainly qualitative, although we had first conducted a quantitative survey. We discovered, as we analyzed the corpus, that the results found in the literature, were confirmed: oral discourse is denser than written discourse, both offer difficulties in terms of lexical precision for students, and that these differences are subtly diminishing. The results suggest that schools should give more attention to the studies of oral discourse because it is basic to writing. With the use of technology in writing, it is found that it is getting the features of speech
