RESUMO

The main objective of the present study is the mathematical modelling, simulation and control of distillation columns processing high-purity overhead products. The phenomenological aspects of the dynamic behavior of columns are analysed at first to obtain a model which takes into account the main variables, beeing also flexible, reliable and practical. The next step is the simulation of the dynamic behavior of columns with overhead impurities in the range of 10 POT. 3 to 10 POT. 6 ppm. Methyl alcohol system was selected as an illustrative case. The potential of the model in the analysis of control systems is discussed, with emphasis in several aspects of the control theory: selecting the most adequate dual control theory: dynamic analysis of interactions (gain matrix methods), ideal versus real dual control (delay), non-linear control (decoupling function) and forward-feedback control
