RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bleaching effect of 37% carbamide peroxide, sodium perborate mixed with distilled water and sodium perborate mixed with 35 hydrogen peroxide on artificially stained pulpless teeth. Eighteen bovine teeth were sectioned 3mm apical of the cement-enamel junction and were divided into eight groups. Four groups was directed darkening with human blood for 14 days uninterrupted. Following up the procedures of endodontics in all samples, "walking bleach" technical was did for three consecutive weeks. The effectiveness of bleach process in dental three thirds, was determined by comparing the response of factors L *, a * b * of the studied groups through readings held in spectrophotometer Vita Easyshade, based on the CIE Lab system. It was concluded that all three bleach agents had the same effect for the third cervical of discolored teeth and middle third of not discolored teeth, the 37% carbamide peroxide had lower bleach effect in incisal and medium-thirds of discolored teeth, and in thirds incisal and cervical of teeth without pigmentation by blood, especially in the residual effect of the action of the internal dental bleaching agents; however the sodium perborate mixed with distilled water and sodium perborate mixed with 35% hydrogen peroxide showed the same whitening for the three thirds not depending on the presence or absence of blood stain.
