RESUMO
In the contemporary information society, growing competition creates intense demand for knowledge in organizations. The success of any organization depends on its ability to share, and especially to create, information. One of the great challenges in information-sharing is to provide the necessary support to facilitate interactions among individuals in networks of relationships. The literature identifies trust as a fundamental ingredient in human interactions, serving as a necessary basis upon which relationships can develop and function effectively. On the other hand, the literature raises questions about the possibility of establishing trust in interactions that take place primarily in a virtual environment. Addressing this problem, this research project examines the topic of trust in virtual environments, with the goal of identifying factors that contribute to building trust in human relationships based on virtual interactions. For that, a bibliographic research was made aiming to identify those factors, as well as a field research to evaluate the perception of the virtual peoples interactions, concerning the identified factors. The results lead to conclude that: (i) twenty three of the twenty five factors were validated by the sample highlighting the factor Keep Commitments - as the most important one; (ii) the group of factors directly related to perceived trustworthiness, identified as one of the agents for building trust in virtual interactions, was confirmed as the most important as well; (iii) there are different perceptions between synchronous and asynchronous interactions members concerning factors relevance. Finally, it was observed that even with all technological information and communication progress, trust is and will remain being the best fuel to feed the virtual peoples interactions aiming to create and share knowledge in organizations.
