RESUMO

Between October 2003 and august 2004 collection of vaginal secretion were preceded to mycological exam in 146 women: 12 pregnants, from which 11with symptoms and 1 without symptoms; 134 non-pregnants, from which 117 with symptoms and 17 without symptoms of vaginal levedurose, attended at gynecology ambulatory from Manuel Caldas de AraÃjo Hearth Center, Paulista-PE. Before collection a social and clinical questionnaire was applied for statistic analysis of the epidemiological information such as age, pregnancy, presence or absence of symptoms, number of child, partner fidelity, menstruation cycle, first menstruation, first sexual relation, civil state, address, profession, school level, diabetes presence, anemia, high blood pressure and factors such as: antibiotic use, allergy, DIU use, contraceptives, alcoholic drinks and smoking. In 60% off the samples of vaginal secretion, yeasts were detected by direct exam and culture. In 27% fungi structures were not observed by direct exam and culture was not obtained. In 13% were observed fungi structures by direct exam and culture was not obtained. From vaginal secretion of pregnant women with symptoms 592 colony formation unites (CFU) were obtained and 84 CFU from women without symptoms were obtained; from vaginal secretion of non-pregnant women with symptoms 3.366 CFU were obtained and 432 CFU from those without symptoms. From vaginal secretion of 75% of pregnant women nine samples of yeasts were isolated, from which 8 were from women with symptoms and one from a women without symptoms; from vaginal secretion of 59% of non-pregnant women were obtained 84 samples of yeasts, from which 73 samples were from women with symptoms and 11 from women without symptoms.
