RESUMO
This study was dedicated to the synthesis and characterization of ZnO films grown on aluminum and graphite substrates. The synthesis was carried out through the hydrothermal method that is simple and low cost. The association of different characterization techniques allowed the study of electronic and structural properties of the films in order to evaluate their performances towards methylene-blue photo-decomposition. The Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy (DRS), Xray Absorption Spectroscopy at the Zn K edge (XAS), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and photoluminescence techniques were used. The results showed a strong influence of the substrate in the morphology of the films. The ZnO films with hexagonal crystalline structure, present defects in their structure that generates emissions in the visible spectrum. The highest photocatalytic efficiency to the methylene blue decomposition was associated to the film with the lower quantity of structural defects.
